Terms & Conditions and Liability Waiver

Overleaf Publishers Ltd · Co. No. 15735226 · VAT No. 479581629 · Version 1.2 · September 2026 · chainsawcourses.com

1. Definitions

"Platform" means the Chainsaw Courses eLearning platform operated by Overleaf Publishers Ltd at chainsawcourses.com. "Course" means the online chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting training programme. "Student" means any individual who purchases an Activation Code and accesses the Platform. "Activation Code" means the unique access credential issued upon purchase. "Manual" means the printed or digital Overleaf Chainsaw Manual supplied as course material.

2. Access and Licence

Upon purchase, the Student receives a single-user, non-transferable licence to access the Course content on one device. The Activation Code is bonded to the first device on which it is redeemed. Sharing credentials, Activation Codes, or access links is strictly prohibited and constitutes a breach of contract. Overleaf Publishers Ltd reserves the right to revoke access without refund in the event of suspected sharing or misuse.

  • Licence is for personal, professional development use only.
  • Initial access is granted for six months from the date of activation.
  • Content may not be reproduced, redistributed, or commercially exploited.

3. End of Course Access

The original Course is a one-off Shopify purchase and includes six months of access from activation. It does not renew automatically. Near expiry, the Student may receive a separate optional Stripe continued-access subscription offer. Its live recurring price and billing frequency are displayed before payment. The Student may ignore the offer or cancel before the first payment or any later renewal through learner access. Cancellation, payment failure or reminder-delivery failure never shortens the original paid six-month access. Certificate and completed-training records remain available under the Platform's retention arrangements.

4. Intellectual Property

All course content, video material, text, images, quiz questions, interactive tools, and the Overleaf Chainsaw Manual are the intellectual property of Overleaf Publishers Ltd and are protected by UK copyright law. The Student is granted a limited, non-exclusive licence to access and use the content for personal study only. No content may be recorded, downloaded, reproduced, or transmitted in any form without the express written consent of Overleaf Publishers Ltd.

5. Comprehensive Liability Waiver

IMPORTANT: Chainsaw operation and maintenance are inherently hazardous activities. Improper handling, maintenance, or operation can result in severe, life-altering injury or death. By purchasing and accessing this Course, the Student explicitly acknowledges and agrees to the following:

  • The Course provides theoretical knowledge and educational guidance only. It does not constitute practical chainsaw training.
  • Practical, hands-on training with a qualified instructor is legally required for professional chainsaw operation in the UK (PUWER 1998, Regulation 9).
  • The Student assumes all risk associated with applying knowledge gained from this Course in any practical context.
  • Overleaf Publishers Ltd, its directors, employees, and agents accept no liability for any injury, death, property damage, or consequential loss arising from the Student's use or application of information contained in the Course or Manual.
  • The Student confirms they are aged 18 or over and are aware of the legal requirements for chainsaw operation in their jurisdiction.
  • The liability waiver signed digitally at the point of first platform access forms an integral part of this agreement.

6. Data and Privacy

Personal data is collected and processed in accordance with our Data Protection Policy and UK GDPR. The Student's name, email address, device identifier, and training progress are stored for the purpose of delivering the Course and maintaining training records. Data is retained for 3 years from the date of last platform activity. Full details are set out in the Data Protection Policy available from the Documents Library within the Platform.

7. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales. Any dispute arising under or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

8. Amendments

Overleaf Publishers Ltd reserves the right to update these Terms & Conditions at any time. Students will be notified of material changes via the Platform. Continued use of the Platform following notification of changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
